HOUSTON, Texas – December 12, 2025 – Mitsui E&P USA LLC (MEPUSA), a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., has received a ‘Grade A’ certification against the MiQ methane emissions performance standard for its natural gas production operations in South Texas. MiQ certification underscores MEPUSA’s commitment to minimizing methane emissions while delivering natural gas to global markets.
MiQ is the not-for-profit global leader in methane emissions certification. A ‘Grade A’ is the highest possible performance ranking and reflects MEPUSA’s high performance in three scoring categories for its South Texas operations: company practices, monitoring technology deployment, and methane intensity. The certification process involved third-party verification from independent, accredited auditors who have proven expertise in methane emissions management, accounting, and monitoring.
“Achieving MiQ certification with a ‘Grade-A’ is a significant milestone for MEPUSA and a testament to our team’s dedication to lowering methane emissions,” said Bill Martinez, EVP & COO of MEPUSA. “Our South Texas operations are setting a high standard for lower methane emissions gas production, and this certification strengthens our ability to meet the growing demand.
“The independent certification of MEPUSA’s natural gas production operations in South Texas shows the company is committed to reducing its methane emissions,” said Georges Tijbosch, CEO of MiQ. “MiQ is providing trusted, independently verified data on methane emissions that enables operators to understand and reduce methane emissions.” MEPUSA’s South Texas assets, spanning over 8,500 acres in Webb County with production exceeding 130 MMscfd, play a vital role in supporting regional energy demand, including LNG export terminals and industrial facilities. The ‘Grade A’ MiQ certification enhances MEPUSA’s position to supply premium, low-methane-intensity gas to markets, aligning with Mitsui & Co.’s global commitment to reduce emissions.
Key initiatives driving this achievement include state-of-the-art methane detection and mitigation systems, innovative water recycling programs, and proactive community engagement efforts. These practices minimize environmental impact, ensure operational transparency, and foster strong relationships with local stakeholders.
