MiQ, the global leader in methane emissions certification, has certified Red Cedar Gathering Company’s gathering and boosting asset in La Plata County, Colorado, against its robust methane performance standard. Red Cedar Gathering Company (“Red Cedar”) is a joint venture between the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and Kinder Morgan.
This is the first gathering and boosting facility to be certified by MiQ, providing emissions transparency to the midstream segment of the natural gas supply chain. Red Cedar’s conformity to the MiQ Standard for Methane Emissions Performance from Gathering & Boosting and Processing facilities was independently, third-party verified by Responsible Energy Solutions.
Red Cedar’s MiQ Certification allows them to provide both natural gas buyers and producers with independent, third-party audited data on methane emissions and enables informed emissions-based decision-making on the gas that Red Cedar processes. The learnings from the verification process will also assist Red Cedar in achieving operational excellence in characterizing, monitoring, and mitigating methane emissions from their asset.
“Red Cedar’s certification underscores its commitment to reducing methane emissions, and it demonstrates that full supply chain emissions transparency, including the midstream segment, is achievable,” said Georges Tijbosch, CEO of MiQ.
“We are pleased to be the first exclusively midstream operator to achieve this certification. Environmental stewardship remains a top priority for Red Cedar and its owners—the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and Kinder Morgan. We are committed to responsible operations that protect the Southern Ute Indian Reservation and the surrounding airshed.” said Coy Bryant, President and COO of Red Cedar Gathering.
Red Cedar’s certification reflects the increasing demand from natural gas market participants for transparency on emissions.
With over 5% of the global natural gas supply certified, MiQ is providing the data and transparency needed to eliminate avoidable methane emissions.
